The Purpose of the Duck Race

We aim to provide supportive services to all children with cancer!

The Duck Race is an event organised by the Estonian Association of Parents of Children with Cancer (EAPCC). It's aims are to raise awareness of the situation of children with cancer and their families and to encourage companies and individuals to help them by making a donation.

The first Duck Race took place in 2014 and gathered resources to create the EAPCC support centre and provide supportive services.

The donations collected in 2015 were used to provide support services as well as acquiring important equipment for the Oncology Department of Tartu University Hospital.

From donations collected in 2016, thirty thousand euro was given to support the Children's Fund of Tartu University Hospital in treating severely ill children. In addition to this, support for the activities of EAPCC Support Centre was continued.

Donations in 2018 were distributed to cancer patients and their families as follows:

  •  We paid for 118 453 EUR worth of medicines for children with cancer that were not funded by the Estonian Health Insurance Fund;
  •  42 618 EUR was used to help families in crises situations, providing quick access to a variety of support services and grants - in particular, psychological assistance and/or death benefits. We also funded creative therapy and music therapy services in hospitals to make the time spent there a little more bearable; and
  •  17 462 EUR was used to fund counselling services for families in distress by our coordinator who makes every effort to ensure that families do not lose hope while also helping them to find the strength to keep fighting and adapt to the inevitable life changes associated cancer.

Donations in 2019 were distributed to cancer patients and their families as follows:

  • 16 515 EUR was used to support the transportation and accommodation of children with cancer (and one parent) while they received necessary medical treatment in another country. Medical treatments were financed by the Estonian Health Insurance fund;
  • 13 829 EUR enabled children in hospital to have creative therapy; and
  • 5 199 EUR was used to pay for necessary medicines that were not funded by the Estonian Health Insurance Fund.

Donations in 2020 were distributed to cancer patients and their families as follows:

  • 18 010 EUR was used to support the transportation and accommodation of children with cancer (and one parent) while they received necessary medical treatment in another country. Medical treatments were financed by the Estonian Health Insurance fund;
  • 7 335 EUR enabled children in hospital to have creative therapy; and
  • 97 785 EUR was used to pay for necessary medicines that were not funded by the Estonian Health Insurance Fund.
